Hi everyone,

Last weekend was Halloween so (a week late  :D ) here's what I chose to open.

It had to have a "spooky" theme so chose a Fantome Saison 👻

This is a beer I've had multiple times and instantly when both opening and sampling it's clearly a Fantome...we're always at risk of a gusher and taste wise you get that iconic barnyard funk, this however was different.

Firstly when opening there was no drama, I ALWAYS open any of Danny's bottles with it sat in a large bowl (if it erupts then nothing is wasted and no mess) removing the cork and everything was okay, no need to let the volcano of beer subside.

Pouring and it's clearly a Fantome, no matter how gentle a huge rocky head dominates the glass....slow down Jay  :D

Tasting and that barnyard, straw, funkiness was very muted and more of a background note. Up front it had a peppery, bubblegum, wheaty taste that almost convinced me I was drinking a Belgian Tripel, there were even touches of white wine about it.

I said that this bottle was different but it was different in a most delicious way.

I always wondered whether or not that gusher situation was a product of the beer being shipped overseas. I've only ever had Danny's beers while here in the states, even though I actually visited Fantome once. But because they were closed at the time I missed out on enjoying it there at the source.

As always, it appears that you never quite know what you're going to get when popping open one of these Fantomes. That's what makes it fun!

Hi Jay,
That's indeed a VERY strange experience.
Tasting a Fantôme saison should always give that funky barnyard flavors.
Actually, it is the most typical characteristic from this wonderful natural beer.
I presume that this is a yeast thing. Less wild yeast I suppose? Resulting in less carbonation, less foam, no gusher ?
Did Dany change things in the brewery?
Let's hope not, but you still found it to be delicious, albeit it leans towards a tripel now  :eyes:
Not really sure what to think about that  :chin:
It all looks quite spooky to me though 👻 👻 👻 👻 👻 👻 👻 👻 👻 👻
Cheers,
Filip

Hi John,
That is really so unlucky. I also experienced the same thing long time ago, but also had good luck too.
And believe me, when it is open, you will have an amazing time, especially when Dany is in the house too.
Taxi Filip is still running you know..... for future enjoyments :)
Cheers,
Filip

Thank you Filip. Yes, going back to Fantome one day, hopefully when it is open, is one of my "must do it" dreams. Making the trip there with "Taxi Filip" would make it even so much better!
