LA BOTTERESSE NOIRE  t_u t_u t_u t_u

Strong Dark Ale from Botteresse, with an ABV of 10.2%. New brew for me.

Pours a jet black with a smallish frothy creamy head. No lacing.

Aromas of malts, baking powder, and bread.

It's thin to medium bodied, and nicely carbonated. Smooth and easy drinking, and
overall although there is plenty of depth of flavour subtlety is prevalent here.
Rich, and creamy, with good complexity, and with quite a slick oily mouthfeel,
there's lots of malts, mocha, coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, cocoa powder,
baking powder, toffee, spices, ryebread, pumpernickle, and some licorice and with
just a hint of aniseed. Dry and a quite bitter finish. Lovely stuff!

Cheers!

pumpernickle

Hi Viv,
Always enjoyable reading your tasting notes  t_u
Actually, it is also a learning experience.
Pumpernickel is new to me, so I really needed to Google around :)

Pumpernickel (English: /ˈpʌmpərnɪkəl/; German: [ˈpʊmpɐˌnɪkl̩]) is a typically heavy, slightly sweet rye bread traditionally made with sourdough starter and coarsely ground rye.
It is sometimes made with a combination of flour made from rye as well as whole rye grains ("rye berries").

That should give what you have tasted. Liquid bread !!

Cheers,
Filip
