Hi,
Time for a spicy beer !
A beer made by Mechelen based brewery Het Anker .
Intended to be a one-time brew, made for the cultural 2005 Mechelen event: "Mechelen, Stad in Vrouwenhanden".
But see, this beer is still brewed today anno 2007 ! A wonderful decision from bry. Het Anker to made it a fixed value.
Note that two woman have brought up this idea, and also brewed themselves at Het Anker !

Margriet poured out (Click the picture for high-res). Amber-blond beer of 7vol%. Bottle refermented.
Spices are the main characteristics ! A characteristic which is a Het Anker stamp nowadays.
This beer is delicious refreshing. still has alot of body and is balanced with perfection.
Malty, hoppy and above all significant spicy (coreander). A treat.

The label mentions "feestelijk cultuurbier" (festal culture beer).
Also shows a part of an old painting.

The part of the face is taken from this original painting.
It features Margareta van Oostenrijk, and is made by an unknown artist. Hence the beer name being Margriet.
A story is spread that this painting wouldn't be real, and would in fact be the work of falsifier Jef van der Veken.
Well, that's what art connoisseur Jean-Luc Pypaert was stating. A 16th century portrait or a 19th century falsification?

As already mentioned, this is bry. Het Anker's co-operation to this 2005 cultural event "Mechelen, Stad in Vrouwenhanden"
"Mechelen, city in Woman's Hands".
A culture event, that was held in 2005 inside Mechelen (www.mechelen2005.be).
The head activity was an exhibition called "Dames met Klasse" (Woman with Class), and this painting was  used on all folders, brochures, etc... An exhibition about two Margaretas:  Magareta van Oostenrijk and Margareta van York, multilateral portrayed.

A womans beer with great historic cultural character.........

Cheers,
Filip
