Hi folks,

Just out of curiosity, I made a Google map with Bruges breweries that have existed long time ago till present time. Defunct and the three existing ones.

All info came from the www.thamerken.be website (MASSIVE thanks to Jan Debruyne, who made the https://www.thamerken.be/www.thamerken.be/brouwerijgeschiedenis/gBRUGGE.htm page. Impressive piece of research, but his work is not finished yet. 

I also added more breweries.
This needed massive research on https://erfgoedbrugge.be/

Ofcourse that list isn't finished too. There were much more breweries, but it gives already a nice overview.

BTW, all addresses are accurate! Only brewery de Zeehave needs to be found out where it exactly was located at Sint-Pieterskaai.

that's been fixed by now.



All the old newspaper artcles only menbtion the street without house number.



Until I found this very small announcement !!!



If there has been no house number changes, this should be the brewery !
Remarkable to notice that this is one of the few old building still existing in that street.
The majority are all demolished for new buildings.

There is still alot of research to do to make that map more complete

Hi guys,
So sorry to be so absent lately.
Holiday, and this map demands alot of research, time and patience.
In the mean time the figure went up to 64 breweries.
And there's more to come....

Hello,
The map has grown towards 105 entries.
It still isn't finished yet, but there will be not alot of new entries I think.
The majority has been pin pointed.
Wauw, what a job this was folks. Such a time consuming occupation.
But after all, the result is quite satisfying IMHO.

I'm happy 



BTW, During the research, I found this list of Bruges' breweries existing in 1441.
That year, a brewery count was done.
There were 54 breweries in 1441 !!!

Hi,
I was inspecting the old medieval brewery list from 1441, and compared to the entries from my map.



All breweries that are marked in green are actually on my map too!!

This is quite amazing really.
