Hi,

Brewery De Ryck from Herzele, known for its beer Steenuilke, is closing after nearly 140 years of brewing. The brewery was outdated, and the owners were not willing to make new investments. To preserve the beers and their quality, Brewery De Koperen Markies from Sint-Niklaas is taking over the beers. Production will take place at Brewery The Musketeers in Sint-Gillis-Waas, with whom De Koperen Markies closely collaborates.

For fans of De Ryck's beers, little will change: the taste and identity will remain the same, though small refinements may be made. De Koperen Markies has ambitious plans and aims to build its own production site within two years, possibly with a visitor center. Additionally, the brewery wants to expand its export activities, with operations already in the Netherlands and Spain and plans to explore new markets.

Hi Filip,

Yet more shocking news, although this one does have a happy outcome!

Seems like big upheavals are taking place with some long established breweries
struggling.

Cheers!

Yes Viv,
Alot are struggling.
The older breweries need to keep up with the new regulations and that cost ALOT of money.
Only the strongest survive, that's the ones who have the money to do all those renovations.
It's a tough world we're living in right now  :-\
