Exploding bottle

Hi guys,

In all these many years of beer tasting today I discovered
the first exploding bottle!

I had 24 bottles, stored in a box, as per usual, all from
Broers direct. There were three bottles of the Imperial Stout,
one of which exploded, so maybe I need to taste the other 2
before they explode!? I'm nervous now...! May be just a
strange one-off or maybe a whole batch with too much
carbonation.

Such a strong smell of beer now in the house!

Cheers!

Wauw Viv,
I never had an exploding bottle in my life. Gushers, yes, but not an explosion of glass.
Looks damn dangerous to me, so be VERY carefull with the other bottles.
Go outside, protect yourself and the bottles with a towel and wear some glasses too. You never know!!!!
Cheers,
Filip

Hi Filip,

You are so right. I definitely need to be very careful with the
other 2 bottles, using gloves and glasses ( and full Heimatt? ),
and also I plan to taste them asap as I don't want to give them
a chance to explode as well. Maybe the bottle just cracked and a
couple of pieces of glass were shifted by the natural fermentation
build up rather than a full explosion.

I had to meticulously clean and wipe all the other bottles in case
any shards of glass might have stuck on them.

That particular bottle could have been dropped, or weakened, in
handling somehow though before I took delivery, as opposed to
the whole brew batch being dodgy. I will contact Broers to see
whether anyone else has had the same issue.

Since when did tasting beer become so worrying!!!

Cheers!

Yes Viv, that could be the reason!
Well, I hope that this is the reason, so you can safely taste all the other ones.
But still, caution is needed. You never know, especially your eyes should be protected.
Take care ... and good luck  F_C

Hi Filip,

I've managed to taste the other 2 bottles without any drama.
Just fairly small gushing which was very easy to deal with.
Phew!

Cheers!

Lucky you Viv!!
The bottle sure must've had a failure. It is actually a minor point compared to cans.
But I still prefer bottles though  t_u
