REMARKABLE!

For the first time in the last (14) years, no more increase, but a decrease in total numbers, from 430 to 417.
23 new ones have been added in 2023, BUT many more 36 have discontinued (so - 13 in total)

OTOH, the increase continues with the beer companies.
That list got an update today too

Hi Filip,

I can't find any information online about the demise of the breweries listed
but am saddened because Pirlot, Demanez and de Feniks made some great brews!
I never had the pleasure of tasting anything from the other 2.

I'm sure though that in the last 5-10 years there have been more outstanding
Belgian brews to choose from right now than ever before in history, along
with more styles, and far more 8.00+ ABVs that are available, particularly
Triples and Quadruples, along with Strong Blondes, Darks and Ambers.

Some of the older traditional family breweries have introduced some much better
brews than they had produced/relied on in the past, eg des Fagnes, Omer Vander
Ghinste, de Brabander and Roman to name but a few. Overall quality has increased
hugely.

Let's hope that at least some of the wonderful brews that have been produced by
now bankrupt breweries can be produced somewhere else!!!

Cheers!!!

Hi Viv,
Me neither.
OTOH, the info is reliable as it comes from Tony Dauwens, the master in keeping up updated info about Belgian breweries and beer firms.
Member https://www.zythos.be/groep-bier/ (included the lists!!) which gathers a massive group of people doing the admirable efforts gathering all the info, which is 100% reliable.

BTW.... Demanez is now a beer firm and all is brewed at La Binchoise these days.

Cheers,
Filip
