Hi everyone

This weekend was my weekly #Belgian Sunday and my beer of choice was Orval.

It's a beer we've all had many times but a revisit always delivers that unique flavour that packs a punch above its 6.2% ABV

Bretty, hoppy, spicy, herbal, grassy and very well carbonated...uniquely delicious 🇧🇪❤️

One of the all time greats. Wish it wasn't so expensive here (about $7 a bottle in the beer stores that carry it) or I'd drink it much more often. It's about time to have another one.

Cheers! - John

Hi Jay,

One of my all-time favourites too.

However, there are times when I have found it not having enough depth of flavour,
especially compared to a quadruple.

But it's still complex, subtly different each time I taste it, and a masterpiece

Hi Jay,
Great example of a classic Belgian Trappist beer.
The first time I had this beer, it wasn't my thing.
That's just becasue it has a quite watery mouthfeeling, very dry, and quite bitter too.
This is a beer you need to appreciate with time. It has that acquired flavor.
Similar to olives, chicory, etc...
Ones you get used to it, it could become an addiction.
Those wild yeasts give it that perfumy aroma after ageing it for at least 6 months. A true pleasure then when uncapping that beauty.
The beer has NO sugars left and can be kept for decades.
A true icon in the Belgian beer world.
"Beer, if drank with moderation, softens the temper, cheers the spirit, and promotes health."
