Hi everyone,

Thought I'd share the beer I picked for Sundays #belgiansunday 🇧🇪 ❤️

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Abbaye des Rocs range of beers and I can still remember the first time I tried this particular beer, many years ago in 't Poatersgat...so here we have

Spéciale Noël...9% Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Dark dried berries, rich fruit loaf, dark baked bread, touches of baking spices, caramel, anise...without doubt one of my favourite Belgian Kerstbiers

Cheers

Hi Jay,

Great photo, great glass, and of course great brew!

I first tasted this brew 20 years ago, and have loved it ever since.
It's simply one of those iconic go-tos at Christmas time.

Cheers!

Hi Jay,
Great Xmas beer and a remarkable fixed value for decades.
One of those Belgian beers you can trust they won't change to less quality.
Visiting their website, and looking to their range at https://en.abbayedesrocs.com/ou-range
doesn't show the Xmas beer, but clicking on Grand Cru redirects towards the Xmas beer  :chin:
https://en.abbayedesrocs.com/grand-cru-english
The Grand Cru is also 9vol% and things equal to the Xmas beer.
I wonder if that's the same beer  ???  :chin:

Filip

Hi Filip,

Many websites only list their regular brews, quite often
ommitting any seasonal/one-off/special ones. So it's not
particularly unusual that the Christmas Beer isn't listed.

I've looked through my tasting notes for both beers and
also can just about recollect the tastes!

Referencing the last versions I tasted of both these brews,
by way of labels, albeit a few years ago mind you, I would
definitely say that they tasted different. And the Grand
Cru was 9.5%. So, for me they are/were different brews.

Cheers!

Hi Viv,
They sure will be different brews, but these days, you never know  :eyes:
Avtually their website isn't that perfectly made.
Things don't work properly and the dates mentioned underneith every single beer are in the 'future'  :eyes:
See: https://en.abbayedesrocs.com/notre-gamme
Alc % mentioning differs too on the same page (9vol% - 9.5vol%) See: https://en.abbayedesrocs.com/grand-cru-dutch
Anyway, it's the beer that comes to your mouth which is the most important factor, and Abbaye des Rocs makes some damn fine quality!!  t_u

Lovely photo Jay, and a great beer too! This time of year is my favorite as far as beers go. Here where I live the rest of the year is always so IPA heavy, so it's nice to see other styles get a chance to shine for a little while.

Cheers! - John
