Hi guys,

I sent an email to Maenhout a few days ago enquiring
whether Ferre Triple was in fact the same brew as
Koeketiene but haven't yet had a reply........

Cheers!

Hi Viv,
This begs for a side by side tasting  :exclamation:
I work on that  F_C

Hi Viv,
This was taken from their website, but I reckon that you already have done this research.

I notice a different EBU, and an extra mandarin aroma in the Ferre tripel, but there is already that orange aroma  :eyes:
For the taste there is that difference with white peaches and apricot, but actually those fruit flavors are very similar.
Strange to see the spelling fault polsmout (should be pilsmout ofcourse) and the mentioning of the spice coriander with the hops  ???  ( a weak moment of the webmaster I suppose :)) )

Something tells me that both beer are exactly the SAME  8)

I will find out.... without asking Thijs  t_u

Cheers,
Filip

Hi Filip,

Yes, I did initially think that they were more than likely the same brew
even though there are very slight differences in the details.

Ferre has now become Ferre Quad, so it's entirely consistent that
Koeketiene has also now become Ferre Triple to complete the branding
portfolio.

I have noticed that many small breweries/organisations don't seem to have thought things through when they release their first brew(s), and then often need to rebrand/rename, eg Dikke Jan, becoming Dikke Jan Triple as other brews such as Dikke Jan Blond and Dikke Jan Bruin are released later.

Cheers!

Hello Viv,
I think it is sorted out by now!
They are indeed the same beers.
I went to "Beers @ Movie Fun" here in Bruges, where they sell the complete Maenhout range.
The objective: Buying the Koeketiene and the Ferre tripel, and doing a side-by-side tasting.
BUT..... being all of the Maenhout range available, that Ferre Tripel wasn't  :exclamation:
So I asked the friendly owner Ward if he stil got one, and he immediately told me that the tripel is the Koeketiene.... same beer.
The Ferre tripel is mainly exported and the Koeketiene for domestic reasons.
Also, when observing, one can easily pronounce Ferre in English than that more complicated Koeketiene.
It is just a convenient measure.

That beer is still one of my favorits. What a great tripel!
And.... I got some mandarine flavors  t_u

Cheers,
Filip

Hi Filip,

Well done! An excellent job establishing once and for all
the provenance of the Ferre Triple.

It may be easier to spell, pronounce, etc but surely the
quirkiness of the names and brands is one of the selling
points of Belgian beer...?

I look forward to tasting my bottle soon!

Cheers!

Yes Viv,
Short and powerful names are the key, ie Duvel, Orval, Leffe (yes!), Viven, Omer, .... Ferre !
