WINTER HELHEIM  t_u  t_u  t_u  t_u  t_u

Seasonal Winter ale ( Quadruple ) from Enigma, that has been aged on Bourbon barrel chips, with an ABV of 12.0%. New brew for me.

Pours a very deep ruby burgundy, with a small creamy frothy head; residual lasts throughout, and does create some lacing.

Aroma of malts, ripe berries, herbals, phenols, and bourbon; some nail varnish too.

It's medium to full bodied, and nicely carbonated with a smooth, creamy and filling mouthfeel taste and texture, which is also a bit syruppy. Very complex, layered, balanced and with excellent depth of flavour. There's so much going on flavours with coming and going as it warms. Malts, herbals, florals, phenols, bubblegum, banana, oak, bourbon, vanilla, spices, jam, chocolate, praline, mocha, candied orchard fruits, caramel, pear and plum. Even develops liqueur type qualities. Initial sweetness gives way to a more dry and bitter finish. Initially the flavours are a bit harsh but it mellows as it warms and becomes much more rounded
and easy drinking. Outstanding brew!
