VIVEN BARLEY WINE  t_u  t_u  t_u  t_u  t_u

Barley Wine from van Viven, with an ABV of 11.0%. New brew for me.

Pours a deep amber ruby with a small frothy creamy head. Dissipates quickly but leaves a residue throughout and some lacing.

Aroma of malts, herbal hops, dried fruit.

It's medium bodied, and nicely carbonated, with a oily but light mouthfeel. Fruity, fresh, sharp and crisp when coldest but it mellows and becomes more balanced and rounded as it warms. Complex, layered, and with a good depth of flavour. Lots of
herbal hops, malt base, spices, dried fruits especially dates, raisins and sultanas, figs, caramel, prunes, toffee, milk chocolate. Overall quite sweet, but as it warms fully then it becomes thin and vinous, silky and smooth, with burgundy wine, brandy and even a touch of Drambuie. Excellent brew!

Cheers!
