GRUUT WINTERSPECIAL  t_u  t_u  t_u  t_u

Winter Beer from Gentse Stadtsbrewery, with an ABV of 7.0%. New brew for me. Brewed with chili powder and maple syrup.

Pours a deep ruby burgundy with a good sized creamy frothy head. Good lacing.

Aroma of malts, chilis, malts, hops and spices.

It's medium bodied, and nicely carbonated with a soft and slightly fizzy mouthfeel. Wonderful complexity, and with very good depth of flavour for the ABV. It's sweet yet with a long dry and slightly bitter finish. Lots of spices especially chili powder, pepper, ginger, clove, nutmeg, and caramel, pear and fig, chestnut malts, maple syrup, herbal hops. Very warming, and a nice fireside sipper. Good stuff! ( much better than anticipated by the way )

Cheers!

Chili powder? Maple syrup? This sounds like my worst nightmare beer, lol. I like chili powder on some things, various foods etc. Maple syrup on some things, pancakes, waffles etc. But both together, and in a beer? Blech!  :icon_puke_r:   I'll take your word Viv as to it being much better than anticipated Viv.   :chin:

Hi John,

Perhaps I might not have bought it if I had known the
ingredients in advance of ordering online!

I only noticed them when I was checking out the label,
the bottle having been sat quietly in a box for over
a year. And I remembered that my least favourite beer
of all time was the American Cave Creek Chili Beer!
After a couple of sips I realised that it was undrinkable
and was simply burning my mouth and throat! To call it
a beer was pushing it in my opinion.

Anyway, this Belgian brew is actually very good and
the flavours are all rather subtle and blended so
nothing really jumps out, neither the chili powder nor
the maple syrup.

I hope that calms you!

Cheers!

Ok thanks for the explanation Viv. I still don't think I'm going to run out and hunt this beer down though, lol.
