Hi,
As you've noticed, I just added a food pairing section.
I really think this was needed, because what is a Burgundian life style when only drinking beer.

For example, this amazing pairing that we've done at http://www.kingsclubbrugge.be/ here in Bruges.
Today, this place is called "De Kings".
Not that beery, but they have a great 30-ish beers list with quality, and very affordable prices.
We always go there to try their excellent Gouden Carolus beers from tap.
Gouden Carolus triple from tap is a fixed value, but they also do that rotating Gouden Carolus specialty tap.
Yesterday, they offered the Gouden Carolus Imperial blond at €4.50.
Look at the volume they give you. That's way above the 33cl. mark. Jeez, do I love that !!
I paired my Carolus with a Belgian style stoofvlees dish, simply called "stovers" over here.
I must say that I seldom had such a velvety soft stovers. The beer sauce was great and the side dishes too.
This is comfort food on very high levels folks :appauding-1:

Cheers,
Filip

A great idea Filip for a new section!  t_u

That food looks to be a perfect match for the imperial blonde.

It's great to see the food pairing section returning Filip, like you say good beer and great food go together so we'll.

Whilst I'm no longer cooking professionally I still enjoy cooking at home (less stressful and more relaxing) and recently made a few dishes containing beer.

First off the classic Flemish Carbonnade, I've probably made this dish more than any other in my cooking lifestyle but I still love it just as much.
Cooking it every week when I worked at the pub can kind of take the edge off it a little but making it for my family is a pleasure

A Dutch take on Carbonnade is Draadjesvlees
(thread meat) it's prepared in a similar way to the Belgian classic but as cinnamon and juniper berries...served with Stoemp for a Belgian/Dutch combo

A German take on a Hungarian classic is Brewers Goulash, made using a dark Dunkel beer (just like we had in Nuremberg) and served with homemade Spaetzle

Cheers

Jay,
Those are some cracking stoofvlees dishes there to everyone's taste, country wise.
I sure have difficulties to pick out the most tasty one, but when it's made by masterchefcook Jay, they ALL are winners.

It's not always necessary to drink a beer along your stoofvlees dish.
A perfect example is that rich stoofvlees portion, bought at the frites stall in front of Bruges' belfry tower.
They actually taste the best around 2am at night, when heading back home from an extensive beerpub crawl in centre Bruges.
This gives such a satisfying/sobering/salving effect, resulting into a non-hangover the next morning.... ehh.. the same morning I mean  :)
But Jay, I know you already knew this .... ofcourse.  t_u

Cheers,
Filip

No problem Viv, as this was not a tie and it was Katrien holding the goodie.
It is her underneith pink colored shirt that you see :)
Actually, I seldom wear ties myself though  t_u

Hi Filip,

It's amazing how it does look like a tie, even though
if you really scrutinise the picture you can see that
it is in fact the shirt underneath.

You obviously trust Katrien enough to hold and to look
after your takeaway food! But as there appear to be 2
forks then maybe you are sharing it...!

Cheers!

Hi Viv,
We always share that big portion.
I really (Katrien too) can't manage such a big portions  :fritemayo:
Possibly the best "trompe l'oeul" picture I ever made  t_u

I know exactly what you mean Filip, walking back to our hotel on Wollestraat we inevitably pass the frites stands from whichever pub we are leaving and a visit is a must...I honestly think we visit every night (during the day as well 😄)
