Hi,
The Quadrupel from St-Feuillien finally has been tasted by yours truely  :Manger:

And what a beer folks!!

11vol% strong!

I poured it room temperature, which isn't really in favor of the foam retention.
BUT OTOH......greatly in favor of the flavors t_u

A very dark beer. Perfect "lively" carbonation....giving a living head.

Nosing gives malts, and something sweet spicy. Subtle hops and a perfumy pleasant nose.

Tasting immediatly gives that smoothness. This beer drinks like rainwater. SOOO smooth and velvety. There is nothing harsh there.
A warming mouthfeel sensation  Love it.....
Sweet (dark sugar), malty, dried dark fruits, molasses, not that hoppy, and ...... a spice is detected too.
A sweet, mellow spice to be precise, but frankly I can't point it. Maybe cloves or coreander, or maybe cardemom. It's actually quite subtle. It could ofcourse be a mixture :exclamation:

Anyway, what a big surprise this is :eyes:

I bought me a six-pack at supermarket Colruyt, and when I head back, it sure will be bought again..................and again.

DELICIOUS!

Cheers,
Filip

Hi Filip,

I myself was recently lucky enough to receive a box of St Feuillien Quadrupel beers (and others) and a couple of weeks back sampled this delicious Quad.

Dark fruits, dark bread, Belgian yeast, deep malts, Belgian candy sugar, raisins and like you said Filip a subtle spice in the background...maybe cloves.

A fantastic Quad that I'll be revisiting time and time again (the Triple is also a beauty)

Cheers

Hi Jay,
Had one again last night  :)
With special attention towards the spice(s) that's used.
Clove sure is there, no doubts ! And so perfectly balanced too. Not too overpowering, which frankly is the secret of using spices in beer.

Here is my next tasting

St-Feuillien Grand Cru - 9.5vol%

Greatly presented inside that luxury packaging tube.
Looking forward........  :zicon2_beer3:

Cheers,
Filip
