Hi everyone

A week off work means I can indulge that bit more for this weeks #belgiansunday and partake in a side by side tasting

La Trappe Quad and the newly released Brewdog/La Trappe Quad colab Practise What You Preach (brewed with Scottish heather honey and American hops) both on 10%.

First off I was surprised by how much darker the Brewdog beer is, the base La Trappe is a clear brick red whereas the colab is borderline black.
Both beers have the same flavour profile, however the base La Trappe is the sweeter of the two (to me it's always been one of the sweeter Trappist Quads) the hops in the Brewdog version helping dial this back with the heather honey giving it a faint floral note, it also has a more caramel (rather than candy sugar) sweetness....a fantastic take on an already amazing beer.

Jay, that has to be one of the most attractive looking beer photos I've ever seen. Fantastic mate!

Hi,
No need to reserve a bottle for me Jay (THANKS !!!  t_u t_u t_u) , as I just bought me a couple of 75cl. La Trappe/Brewdog Practise What You Preach at Colruyt. (€7.99 per bottle)

Altogether the same experience like you.
The 75cl. bottles need to be uncorked.
The Browdog collab is indeed much darker, and also hazy when completely pouring....... yeast!
The normal Quadrupel is much more mellow and sweet, opposite yo the Brewdog having more American citric hops going on, which gives it a much drier mouthfeeling, and lingering hop bitterness.
With the ingredient honey, I would have expected a sweeter beer, but on the contrary, the honey gives it a rather flowery sensation. Actually not that honeyish in flavor.
Like you say Jay, the caramel is remarkable. It actually could explain the darker color too of the Brewdog collab.  :find:

Anyway, what a great twist from Brewdog! and what a great mission too:
Two apparently different worlds with the same mission: to leave the world a better place.
That is why La Trappe & BrewDog support Made Blue with this special beer in its mission to provide everyone in the world with clean drinking water.
It is a limited edition Trappist beer.

Cheers,
Filip

Thanks for the kind words John, the festive backdrop helps  t_u

The BrewDog beer was quite the pleasant surprise, I was hoping it would differ from the base Quad so the darker colour, flowery hops and rich caramel were most welcome, making it almost a different beer rather than one with a subtle tweak.

Jay,
I was just asking myself if the "Practise What You Preach" actually IS made from their original Quadrupel  :find:
Maybe, it is just a totally different recipe  :exclamation:

...... if the Dominus range from Anthony Martin's are still brewed at the Trappist brewery La Trappe in
Koningshoeven  ??? (actually, IMHO I think so)
