Beer Tastings / Nonniversaire - 12.5 vol%
June 13, 2021, 10:18:41 AM
What a great beer has been savored!

One of the best barley wines I had for ages!
Calvados barrel aged into 12.5 vol%, giving that amazing woody aroma and flavor.
A silky soft beer that goes in so smooth. Dangerous drinkable this means  :eyes:
This is a very sweet beer.
Toffee, melasses, dried fruits like raisins, prunes, a load of malty flavors, but nothing really hoppy.
This is a 50cl bottle, so tasting was done with a lot of time. Highly satisfying!

I need MORE  ;)

Always nice to visit my favorit Bruges' beer pub De HOPtimist here in Bruges.

Beer of the month: Gulden Draak Brewmaster @ €4.50

A Trappist Westmalle tripel for Katrien.

This sure is one of the better Van Steenberge beers, and this one has been oak aged! 10.5 vol% strong.

Our second order!

Kasteel tripel for Katrien and a "raw whisky infused" wonder of brewing @ 8 vol% by bry Stokhove (Waardamme). Triple Joe.
A small dish of dried sausages to pair with.

Folks, this is terrace pleasures in the warm Belgian sunshine taken to that next level.

Beer Tastings / Jupiler Red
June 10, 2021, 10:47:04 AM
The UEFA European Football Championship starts tomorrow.
Specially for this event, a Belgian red beer has been launched.
Jupiler Red, referring to the Belgian Red Devils soccer players. ABInBev's support!

The Jupiler beer will literally turn red for two months during the European Championship.
After the campaigns in 2014 and 2016, and the name change from Jupiler to Belgium in 2018, Jupiler now goes one step further and the main supporter of the Red Devils changes the color of the beer itself.
For two months, a limited edition of Jupiler, just like the Red Devils and the whole country, will turn red inside.
Thanks to innovative brewing techniques, only the color changes, while the exact same taste is guaranteed.
The special European Championship edition Jupiler Red are available in shops and restaurants from 17 May.
This stunt is part of a large-scale supporters campaign that wants to unite the supporters for the Red Devils, covid-proof, during the European Football Championship.
Jupiler and the Royal Belgian Football Association have been partners for more than 30 years and today officially present the campaign and the red beer during a press conference from the King Baudouin Stadium.

Yes, a nice initiative this is  t_u

Tasting give the regular Jupiler pils though. Not a sweet kriek or similar.
A nice gimmick. That's all.

The beer itself is a typical example of a mass produced industrial pils. Not my favorit ofcourse  ::)

Great to see my favorite website of all back in action. Filip, thank you once more for all the work you've done to achieve this!

Cheers to everyone here! - John
Thanks John, and thanks also for joining again. Highly appreciated  t_u t_u t_u t_u t_u
I'm still waiting for Viv to join the forum. Viv joined the website, but still not the forum.
Without Viv, the BBB is not the same  F_C F_C F_C
It still is a disaster that the old site has gone, incl all the archive material.
I know that one can downbload that 5GB zip file, but is sure is not the same as it used to be, because the archive is not readily available online.
I feel quite guilty about that though  :-[
Also, because it has become impossible to refer towartds older articles, or simply looking up things over here. It is a start from scratch after all.
There was a maintenance yestyerday from our provider, which succeeded. But that didn't include the migration to PHP7.4. Should be ready before 21 June.
I can also do this manually, because I don't have alot of patience  ::) Maybe I will do that today !!
Anyway, life goes on, and Belgian beer sure is part of that.
Cheers and thanks for the support John and everyone else  :appauding-1:
Beer Tastings / Duvel
June 07, 2021, 08:41:24 AM
The first beer tasting on the new BBB has been achieved :)

This really needed to be a classic Belgian beer.

Duvel  :animated-belgium-flag:

Tasted at
Not a place that we normally go to, but I was given the consumption cheques at work, and this place is listed where you can buy with the cheques.... hence...
Not really a beer place. They have about 25 beers, mainly from Duvel-Moortgat, as this tavern is Duvel-Moortgat tied
Exceptions: Westmalle dubbel en tripel, Augustijn, Cornet, Duvel, and a couple of others.
I went for the normal Duvel. Duvel Triple Hop Citra was also available.
€4.20 for the Duvel.
I could pour my glass by myself, as the the full bottle was presented along.
Gently pouring till the last bit, incl. the yeast sediment. That is how I prefer it.
It gives a hazy beer. If you want a crystal clear beer, you simply don't pour the sediment.
Important is that you pour with a huge head as result. Essential!
Tasting and nosing surprised me  :o
Much more hops are going on as I remember.
Fruity, floral hops to be precise. Gives it that delicious flowery perfumy aroma.
Tasting only confirms the nose. Wow, such a hoppy beer this is.
This is not a beer that I frequently taste. It's actually been a while since I had my last one.
I can remember this beer always had that subtle sulfuric side taste. Well, this has disappeared.
It's just like tasting the Duvel Citra hop, but without the citric hops  :o Amazing.
The beer is still quite sweet as it should be. Nice full mouth feeling too.
A beer to sip in the sunshine on a terrace, which we did.
Paired with this tapas platter makes it a complete FEAST

Chit Chat / Re: Table Service

Filip, since Covid all British pubs have had to do table service. (Hooray!) Many pubs are using a sort of app. There is a QR-Code on the table which you scan, this takes you to a webpage with a list of all the drinks and food available they have on sale. You choose what you want, put in your details and pay by credit/debit card. This goes straight through to the bar who put the order together and a waiter brings it to you. Do you know if this system has been introduced in Belgium?
Hi Tony !
Welcome back aBBBoard :)
Yes, the QR-cose is used over here too.
But it only shows the online menu, because the use of the normal menu (card or booklet) isn't that safe, but I've seen that used frequently too.
The virus actually doesn't spread that easy with contact.
Yes, table service is still the norm in Belgium. Paying with money sure has never been forbidden here.
Now, it is only waiting for the 9th of June, when the Belgian bars will open their doors for inside use  t_u
Can't wait .....

Hi folks,
The Belgian Beer Board has been upgraded !
What you see now is a basic version, and needs to be enhanced into much more Belgian beery.
Also much work to do for the main page.
Eventually everything will become as it used to be ..
Most important, the BBB is still ALIVE!
Very important too is that the archive of the previous BBB has been saved.
You can consult the old forum archive via a link inside the main page.
Viv's pictures are all saved, there, but not the other pictures,as the webspace was the limit.
I will also upload a zip file from the forum, incl. all the other pictures.
The archive of the main page has been fully downloaded to my PC. I'm still figuring out how to present that archive, but that's for the future.
