Many thanks Filip, perhaps the lack of information means they want to keep it a local event.

Beer News / Ieper
July 24, 2026, 01:34:38 PM
A translation of Wacho's newsletter tells me,
"'Ieperse Tooghedagen' (Ypres Bar Days)—taking place this year from September 11 to 14."
To celebrate, everyone is welcome to join a beer tasting event at that time."

I wondered if you could tell me anymore about it Filip?
There is no mentioned of it on Ieper Tourist Site.

It will certainly be on my list of beers to drink when i'm next in Belgium. I've always been a fan of Gouden Carolus beers and was worried about there future when Huyghe bought them up. Glad to see it looks good.

Who Is Where? / Re: Malaga
October 21, 2025, 08:25:13 PM
Great report as usual Jay. After reading your Porto one, we booked to go there this week but Bridget hasn't recovered from her broken hip and we had to cancel. Malaga is now on the bucket list. We hope you are feeling better by now, what a terrible affliction to not be able to drink beer.

Website / Re: The end of the BBB website
October 11, 2024, 01:04:36 PM
Bridget & I are so sorry that the BBB is to close. We fully understand your reasons Filip but as I said on Facebook although I haven't contributed as much in recent years, I refer to the massive store of information the site contains on a regular basis.  I've lost count of the number of people I've told to look at BBB when they've asked for advice on Belgium. As Jay said it is how we've met some great friends over the years, yourself and Katrien included. A sad loss.

Beer News / Beer Warehouses
June 27, 2022, 10:05:19 AM
??? We are staying Gent later this year and as usual we will be buying crates of beer to bring back. For years we been going to de Hop Duvel warehouse in Coupure Links. When I go to their website dehopduvel.be it appears to have moved premises. It is still in Coupure Links on your map Filip. Could you check which is correct please.

Ha Ha John that brought a smile to my face. years ago I worked in a physical testing laboratory and we used dri ice to cool steel samples to test them a low temperatures. For fun though we used to freeze things like tomatoes and they became so brittle  you could smash them to bits with a hammer.

Sorry to hear the sad news. I did meet Jan when he was running Brugs Beertje years ago. Is that your Katrien who came second in the beer tasting competition?

Chit Chat / Table Service
June 05, 2021, 08:45:15 PM
Filip, since Covid all British pubs have had to do table service. (Hooray!) Many pubs are using a sort of app. There is a QR-Code on the table which you scan, this takes you to a webpage with a list of all the drinks and food available they have on sale. You choose what you want, put in your details and pay by credit/debit card. This goes straight through to the bar who put the order together and a waiter brings it to you. Do you know if this system has been introduced in Belgium?
